Chef Hari Nayak
Culinary Director for Cafe Spice
Our Culinary Director, Chef Hari Nayak, began his epicurean journey as a child growing up in Udupi, India (birthplace of the Indian crepe called “dosa”). His passion and love of food brought Hari to The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he further refined his skills and exposure to global cuisines. From there, he went on to work in restaurants in New York, London & Paris. In February 2013, Hari was presented in Manapal, India with the prestigious ITC Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contributions in Foodservice.
Today, Hari is one of the most sought after chefs in North America, followed for his unique style, attention to detail, and delicious flare.
At Café Spice, we are honored to have Chef Hari as an integral part of our team. He brings a new, modern outlook to Indian cuisine without sacrificing quality or abandoning the authentic flavors, wonderful aromas, and rich culinary history that make Indian food a popular and rapidly growing trend around the world.
Hari Nayak is the author of the bestseller Modern Indian Cooking, a cookbook featuring his simple yet eclectic style of preparation and cooking, and My Indian Kitchen, which introduces readers to preparing delicious Indian meals “without fear or fuss.” His most recent cookbook, Easy Indian Cooking, is a culinary delight that features 101 “fresh and feisty Indian recipes.” Hari continues to pioneer modern Indian cuisine, and is creating a sensation of sorts in North America.
Chef Hari’s latest book, The Cafe Spice Cookbook makes it easy for today’s health-conscious home cooks to prepare light and fresh versions of classic dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala or Shrimp and Mango Curry as well as a bounty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free recipes.
